EU Inc.

I remember signing up for the EU-INC proposal back when it launched. I was sold after the first few sentences already, and felt like the proposal was something most people could get behind. It’s rare to see something with so few potential downsides.

Fast forward to today, and it has become an official proposal from the European Commission. Exciting!

In my view, this is transformative stuff. I believe one reason for Sweden’s success in the startup ecosystem is the relative ease of incorporation and options management. There are some oddities there too, and some things that could be modernised further, but compared to most countries it’s an easy process.

The commission’s proposal includes 1€ minimum capital, standardised investment instruments (EU-FAST), an EU-wide employee share option scheme with standardised rules, and a 48h incorporation timeline, fully digital naturally. Tax, employment and sector regulation stay national.

Never before has the idea -> product pipeline been faster, and this should help us keep up. Now let’s make sure it passes.
